How common is breast cancer in young women?

I heard mainly middle age women need to worry about breast cancer, and it’s very unlikely girls my age get it, but how common is it? I feel like something’s not right with me but everyone says I’m fine and I’m too young. I’m waiting to get examined by my doctor.

Answer #1

Just under 7% of all breast cancer cases occur in women under 40 years old.

Breast cancer is not usual in young people.it is usual in woman more than 30 years of age. Breast cancer records over 50 years show no cases in under 15 and one case in every 1.3 million among 15 - 19 year olds. so this is very rare.also woman can have breast cancer if they are having radiation(long term effects) but again it only can happen in the age of 30-40.

Answer #9

are you scared?do you have any symptoms of breast cancer? if not then just relax… i also have risks of breast cancer,so i was suggested to do screening after the age of 30.

Answer #10

I think it’s not very common unless the person has a mother or grandmother etc who has had breast cancer then maybe she would be at a slight risk……There are some people within a certain culture or ethnic background who are more receptive to developing breast cancer, it’s something I read but cannot place my finger on the new article. :( ………Sorry yashica, having mammograms at 30 is not beneficial based on doctors’ opinion in Oz, unless of course the person falls within the ‘danger’ group and needs to have a scanning done due to family history..….I know the doctors encourage women of any age to conduct regular self breast examination after each period in order to check for lumps etc……Most specialists in Oz, encourage women over the age of 45 plus to have regularly mammograms screening regardless of family history but do not stipulate the procedure is necessary for women under 30’s unless there is a family history of women suffering from breast cancers.

Answer #11

i need to to have scanning sadly :( atleast at the age of 35,no family history but i do have chances..

Answer #12
