So, I've been using coconut oil on my hair but my dad said it will clog the drain when I wash it out. I know oil clogs drains but I only oil my hair once every 2 weeks and use about 1 tsp. I don't want to give it up b/c it works well but will it do alot of damage to the shower drain?
Coconut oil is loaded with fats that can solidify when exposed to cooler temperatures, so - yes - it can clog the drain, but for the small amount you've been using, it's highly unlikely.
Oil is not THAT thick, and your not using alot of it, your not doing it often either. So I think your shower drain will be fine. -.-
Eventually, yes, it will do damage. Same concept as putting any other oil down a sink drain when you cook, or grease.
