How do i Get closer to my dad?

Well Me and my dad used to be really close when i Was younger, but after my parents divorced and my dad remarried, i haven’t been able to have a great connection like i used to. We used to jam to muzic and talk about all kinds of stuff now i don’t even know what to say to my dad when i see him. I’m closer to my step mom than him. How can i get our old Father -daughter relationship back?

Can you explain a little more about your situation and why you guys are not close to begin with? This could help us to help you better.

to be honest, i had that with my dad when I was 15…you can say i was the exact opposite of you…i had no relationship with my dad…both my parents were married not divorced, but i never had anything but hate & resentment for him…so much so when i was a kid i used to mark my dad’s eyes/nose & mouth with a black sharpie…(well deserved i might add!)

I figured the only way I could ever have a relationship was if I wrote him a letter…a very long letter of how i felt & why i was feeling that way! I guess it was an eye opener for him & somehow after that time…we have been as close as ever…in fact we are so close now my mother has been the evil witch! Constantly stating how i was my father’s daughter and how my brother’s her son!

My best advice to you dear, is to try the same…what harm can it do? Write everything you just stated on here…explain in full detail of what was & how things used to be…explain how ever since the whole divorce, you have felt even closer to his wife then you do to him….and you really resent that…and you demand to have that changed! Explain how much you miss the old times…and would like to try to get back to it…at his pace of course & yours…but that this behavior can not be tolerated anymore & that things have got to change before they get any worse!

I have no doubt in my mind that your father loves you & just doesnt know himself how to get that closeness back with you & may suspect that you resent him for leaving your mom…so what he has done was take a step back, allow you to get close with your step mom, and hope that at least you dont hate her for being with him…and in due time you will find your way back to him when it is at your convenience!

Trust me, try it…write out everything make sure you leave no issues out…1 page or 10 pages long…just fold it in an envelope and seal it…write on it: To Daddy….(fathers are such suckers for that sort of stuff!) From: Your Little Girl (name) Works like a charm..lol

Hope it works… good luck… keep us posted ♥

Well, he is probally going through a lot of different emotions, so its not like he means to be like that, but give it time, im sure soon enough he’ll snap out of it. but if not, maybe you should tell him that you miss what you two use to have. He is your father after all, don’t be scared to talk to him :)

Answer #5

i know how you feel, your taking the right approach ;-) but try to make small take evey now and then. You can always just let him know you want to take some time to reconnect with him. Plan father and daughter time with him and see if he can cmmit to it. Im sure things will work out just remember that things dont always change overnight

Hope I Helped! ;-)
