Sometimes there is just too much stress everywhere and people fill the air with their negative comments and thoughts. I find myself at times adding on to that negativity. How do I clear it out? Both internally and externally?
You cannot clear it externally :) They are other people and you cannot control anything outside of yourself - more importantly, you shouldn't even try to.
Internally, something I do is I don't 'buy in' to external negativity in the first place. Someone throws a negative comment on me, I just overlook it - it means nothing about me and everything about the other person's psychology if I don't 'buy in' and identify with the negativity. Always remember, it takes ten times the amount of energy to stop a negative thought train which has gained momentum than it takes to deflect negative thoughts so they don't enter and contaminate your mind at all.
Your observer, or your observing ego, at the back of your mind is always reminding you of things to avoid doing. If you tell yourself that you don't want to add in to negativity or let negativity in, the observer will remind you to do so in the back of your head when the right time arises. You just have to be sensitive to it, not overlook it and comply with it when it reminds you NOT to do something.
Another thing you can do is 'Releasing' - What this is, is, you take a deep breath and as you exhale, you take your exhaled breath to be the metaphor for all the negativity which was formerly in your body and is now leaving it. As it leaves, everything which remains is positive.
Remember, the emotion is NOT holding on to you. YOU are desperately holding on to the emotion. All you have to do is LET IT GO, and releasing helps you achieve that.
Myself? I just find a hobby or something I enjoy, it clears away the negative for me, leaving me happier and less stressed. Some people meditate, some people exercise, I find that when I exercise I forget about whatever the problem. As for negativity from others, those don't really bother me, they tend to go straight through me, the odd time it bothers me, well, again I find a hobby to do like exercising or cooking. Sometimes to relax and ease the stress I take a nice bubble bath and just enjoy sitting in the bubble.
