Do I claim the house on my taxes?

My mother passed away in August of 2006. She left the house we had to me, and the deed was put in my name in 2007. I didn’t obtain a loan for the house until 2008. Do I claim the house on my taxes? I don’t have any info from the mortgage company, but will it be beneficial to claim the house?

Hi,

It would be best to contact a lawyer about this, or your accountant. However, if the house was put in your name in 2007, I would assume that you claim it.
