Because it is a masterpiece.

The film shows how our lives, after we are gone, survive only in the memories of others. Its laid out in a circular structure that just keeps getting more in depth as it moves on. Many of life lessons are covered in this one film.

Citizen Kane is also a gathering of all the lessons of the emerging era of sound put to use in one movie.
