The reason to keep a pup within it’s family group at this age is more social than because of food…They learn “doggie manners”, from parents and other pups in the litter.

The reason people want to get rid of them at this age, is because they’re up and moving around, and pooping and peeing…and seem to be too much work…as Harley said, not a good breeder.

However, at this age, all puppies bite, and play (something she’d be doing with her littermates, and learning what is too hard, what is too rough)…Your job for the next couple of weeks is too teach her that biting hard hurts and isn’t acceptable…(teaching her in a doggy way)…You can try YIKING, just like another pup might, and see if she releases her hold. If she does…praise…praise…praise. You can also gently hold her down, till she quits struggling (just like her mother would).

Her little personality will be showing thru, now, also…and she may be a more dominant type. If she comes back like a tiny tornado…then get up and quit the game. Walk away…she will learn that YOU control the play…and if she gets too rough, you’ll end the game.

You can go back to playing as soon as she settles down…repeat as necessary…she WILL learn, honest! Just remember, nothing harsh, just gentle lessons.

I know you are upset. Most states have a law on what age a puppy can leave it’s mother, this is why people are upset, this person is not a good breeder. Is she bitting your hand or the bottle? The Six week old chihuahua I have right now still wants her mommy, because it taste better but I try to ween them off between 4-5 weeks of age. She is old enough to eat on her own. I feed her Esbalic and wet canned science puppy food. I mix it into a little soup and heat it just a LITTLE bit. We work at this everyday four to five times a day to get her to learn to eat, I would say if this baby has her teeth then she should not be on a bottle anymore. The replacement milk on wet food should be enough to attract her and eat. I would think about getting her puppy teething rings. My little on wants to play and bit also at this age. But the reason she may be acting out is because she left her mom to young, They LEARN SO MUCH FROM THE MOTHERS AT THIS AGE when they are takin away the loose so many of the social skills. My Mother chihuahua puts her baby in place when she is not doing something right, I don’t step in this is all about them teaching there young. We all say where I work that Bottle feed babies are always naughty patients to deal with. Good luck and find out what you can from your vet. give them a call I am sure they can give you some great advice. hopes this helps. and I would not get another dog from this person, she did not care about the welfare of the puppies

You can mix dry dog food with water until it is soft or use a can dog food. At five weeks the mother would be weening him anyway, so milk is not a necessary part o his diet. But do use a food (can or dry) that is designed for puppies. Many breeders I know choose Nature’s choice which can be found at Petco or Petsmart.

Hi. I breed , raise, show and board Chihuahuas. They really should not be sold , and taken to a new home till they are 12 - 16 weeks old. Not just because they need the social training, and confidence that comes with spending enough time with their mom, litter and breeder… but also because they are very delicate, and prone to “low blood sugar crashes” and other illnesses like coccidosis from the immune slumps caused by their first vaccines and wormings. The preservatives in a vaccine, that’s sized for a 10 lb puppy, can really knock a 1 lb puppy, off it’s feed, due to it’s tiny liver being unable to cope. RESPONSIBLE Breeders keep puppies at home, thru their first 3 vaccines, full 30 days treatment with Albon, several wormings, litter training, and socializiation with kids, new people, puppies and cats. Then a puppy is happy, confident, and ready to move on to their permanent home. That breeder should be reported to your local ASPCA or animal control. My state says it’s ILLEGAL to sell or transfer a puppy before 8 weeks old, of ANY breed, without a vet check and the vet saying it’s ok and the puppy is strong enough. MUCH less a Chihuahua ! I really hope you are very careful with stool checks, not bringing in diseases on your shoes, wormings, vaccines, and even just walking around the house, or letting smaller children handle your baby Chihuahua. Smallest of all breeds of dogs, they are also the most breakable.
I’d get her some Bil-Jac puppy dry food at PetSmart. It’s easy to crunch, and has molasses and white rice besides chicken…and those carbs will help keep her blood sugar up. Keep a tube of NutriCal on hand also in case she seems weak or wobbly at any time. Or Karo syrup, for possible hypoglycemic attacks. ie: low blood sugar, which starts as looking weak or wobbly , and can quickly progress to acting dull, limp, then unconscious with or without seizure activity, then coma, then death.
