Cat with diabetes

Hi. I think my cat has diabetes. Has anyone had a pet with diabetes? Can you tell me what your experience was like? Are they still happy even with the insulin shots? Is it better to put them to sleep? I need help and I am very upset. Thank you -emma

If your pet is in pain, I think the best interest for the animal would be euthanasia. If an owner really loves their pet, they would understand that it’s time to let go. First you need to find out how serious the problem is and what the veterinarians can do to help; I personally think that cats/dogs can live with diabetes and can lead a normal life with no other complications. Most cats won’t be in pain, and most of the time you can’t tell the difference! Make sure you can get some medicine/injections for your cat and to be feeding her/him a balanced diet. Talk to your vet about nutrition and exercise!

Thanks to everyone for the advice, this afternoon we put my cat to sleep. We just gave him a ton of treats and petted him non stop for a few hours to make sure his last moments were extra happy! I’m a bit sad right now, but I know he is in a better place and I dont regret the decision to let him go peacefully. Thank you!!

We have a renter who’s cat has diabetes, and has had it for several years. She gives her kitty insulin by injection, every day…You’d never know by looking at the cat, that it has a chronic disease.

Take your cat to the vet and get the information you need…your cat could live for years…

My dad had diabetes and we put her down because all she was doing was laying around and we knew she was suffering - we’d rather put her down then see her suffer. It all depends on the level of diabetes and all that jazz, if she’s in pain then I suggest putting her down if the pain cant be fixed.
