which one is the career when you talk to ppl a psychologist or psychiarigisl?

You talk about your feelings and issues with both…however a psychiatrist can prescribe medication and has a degree in medicine and a psychologist can not.

Having been to both….and aside from the fact that a psychiatrist can prescribe medication….Psychiatrists seem to take a lot of notes, and do little talking. I never got a “tool to use in life” from a psychiatrist, either. I also went to a Psychologist who had a doctorate…he offered a LOT in the way of tools to help myself get thru life in a positive way. Not much note taking with the psychologist.

This isnt exactly a simple question to answer. There are many different types of psychologists and psychiatrists who do many different types of things. There are psychiatrists who do psychotherapy. Psychotherapy is the talk therapy you’re talking about. Psychotherapy can be done by mental health counselors, social workers with masters degrees, marriage and family therapists, psychologists and psychiatrists. Psychiatrists tend to do less psychotherapy than the rest of them. However, it is entirely optional and they are trained to do psychotherapy. Remember, the founders of the field of psychology (e.g. Freud) were psychiatrists. They started off psychoanalysis and really talk therapy.
