I know this might seem like a stupid question but my friend said some candy has animal fat in it, so they cant eat it. Is this right?
Most vegetarians are lacto-ovo meaning they eat dairy and eggs but no meat or meat byproducts (nothing the animal has to be killed to get). Most vegetarians who know what gelatin is made of will avoid it. My vegetarian step-daughter eats marshmallows, not sure she knows about gelatin but I don't take it upon myself to police other vegetarians.
There are many obscure animal products in foods. Some vegetarians are really picky while others take a don't ask don't tell attitude toward food. Some ingredients can be of vegetable or animal origin like the renit used to make cheese. Some vegetarians will not eat cheese unless they know for a fact that it used vegetable renet while others don't sweat it.
Even the strictest vegans usually make exceptions when they need a medication that has animal products in it when no vegetarian alternative is available.
Well it depends on how you look at it... cheese, milk, eggs is not really part of the animal (I mean you're not killing the animal to get that stuff). Animal fat, on the other hand, well you're killing the animal... so, technically it depends on why the person is a vegetarian and what they believe...
vegitarians just dont eat meat.
vegans(spell check) dont eat anything made from anything coming from an animal.this includes cheese, milk, eggs, meat, and so on.
so if some candy really does have animal fat in it then technically a vegan shouldnt eat it.
but a vegitarian can.
Candy can be made from animal fats or gelatin (also an animal by-product), so in a sense, it does go against vegetarian standards, but in the end, it just depends on how hard-core that vegetarian is.
...vegans would be more picky about their candy than vegetarians would...
Vegetarians don't eat meat. Vegans don't eat meat, dairy, or eat/use any animal by-products.
