can prednisone cure hives

does anyone know if prednisone can cure hives?? I went to the hospital and the doctors did not give me anything for it.. I was wondering if prednisone cure hives..

This is what I found… let me make myself a little more clear, unless you’ve been prescribed the steroid FOR THE HIVES, I wouldn’t risk it… try another doctor if it doesn’t just go away

Steroids

Now for my pet peeve, steroid use for hive therapy. Many patients understandably get very concerned about their hives and turn to either emergency rooms or primary care physicians who may not be well versed on the subtleties of dermatological care. When patients are shot up with steroids and/or placed on short-term medrol dose packs, more often than not they experience a worsened case of hives within a few days. This is called the rebound phenomenon. You may have read about it in some of my other newsletters. I almost never give systemic steroids for hives. Now if someone is in anaphylactic shock with their hives, epinephrine as well as steroids and huge doses of antihistamines are certainly appropriate medical management, but fortunately, most individuals are nowhere near that sick.

What are the hives from? I take prednisone, but for Systemic Lupas. I don’t take it like I should, on a daily bases because it does start causing weight gain. If the hives are from and allergy, have you tried using Benadryl syurp & the cream. it helps me when I break out with hives. Hope this helps.Good luck

he told me nothing and said it would go away… I have a prescription for it but I wanted to make sure that I took it for the right thing..

I talked to my mom and she said that it does in small doses

the hives are from stress my husband just was deployed and I am here all by myself.. It is my first deployment but his second.. I am not scared so much to be alone it is just lonly and I have trouble finding things to do to keep myself busy. with all the stress I got hives but they seem to be going away.. with out the prednisone..

You cant just take a steroid without a prescription, you dont know what it could do… What did the doctor say about the hives?

I have been suffering w/ major hives for over 20 years. Used all meds that you can think of. Claritin helps a lot. I had such a bad outbreak this wk for 3 days that I have been given the Prednisone pills,4.00 prescription at WMart.It helped the first day. As far as a complete cure, I know that depends on the person and their situation that caused the hives in the first place. Would’nt want to stay on this med.Thank God I am not itching tonite. It feels wonderful.
