Can Pitbulls live together in harmony?

I had a litter of pitbull puppies and kept 2 of them and now they’re attacking each other and the mother. How do I get them to get along? By the way they are 6 months of age.

What Phrannie said adn sgt_harris is correct. Also Editor. Are the pups female? If so it is because the females are coming into heat and they all get snappy at each other. I can leave my sweet Boxer girls together until heat cycle starts to come in and have to separate them?

They normally won’t hurt each other and will work it out.

Let me know if the pups are females, a lot of females of any breed won’t get along at this time.

6 mos is a magical number in females in the dog kingdom.

I’d have to ask, why are you allowing this behaviour to happen?.. I’ve owned many breeds in my life, APBT (pits) happen to be my favorite.. I’ve owned several at one time.. I’ve found putting female and female together as long as they’re both spayed is perfectly fine.. its all about you though.. if you allow this type of behaviour to happen without consequence, it will keep happening.. I never allowed any of my dogs to “play rough” at any time.. instead, when they would even act like they were getting ready to start “wrestling” I’d hand them a rope.. pits absolutely love playing tug of war, and it drains some of their energy.. I’d suggest getting lots of them though, pits are chewers and make easy strings from the ropes :)

They can get along with each other, just train them. Take the time to give them negative reinforcement when they act out.

Any dog can be trained and if you can’t train them, you shouldn’t have them.

Absolutely, they can learn to live together…BUT…it takes a person who knows how to be a “calm and assertive” leader…someone who can “read” dogs, and puts a stop to it before a fight ever gets going. You’ll need someone who is not only “dog savvy”…but understands gladiator breeds (Pits, Rotties, German Shepherds, Dobermans)…If you can’t find a trainer/rehabilitator, then you’re going to have to start them in some type of obedience, individually, AND GET THEM UNDER YOUR CONTROL.

It doesn’t sound to me, frankly…that you have enough doggie knowledge to have more than one Pitbull…attacks by Pits usually happen in packs…and that is any number more than ONE. They are time intensive dogs…high intelligence…high energy (which could be part of your problem…they could easily be bored). They are tenacious (that’s why so many get loose)… They are more powerful than humans, and that’s why more than ONE should only be owned by people who know how to control them…and NO, that’s not on the end of a logging chain…it’s thru voice, body language and leadership.

If you’re going to keep them all, get those pups fixed…get the female fixed, too. Leave the breeding up to the breeders who know genetics, and whose objective is to “better the breed”…

I personally think you looking down the road at a lawsuit…hopefully it isn’t somebody’s kid…I know they are loving, sweet dogs…but when in a pack, they are deadly…ALL dogs have the potential to kill and main when they are “packed up”…even small ones.

rudeboy…you must have had a bad experience with a Pitbull…and I’m sorry for that…when you say “Pitbulls are vicious animals”, in reality, you’re saying “dogs are vicious animals”…They are just dogs…it’s the people who own them that make them into what you may have experienced. If all your “knowledge” has come from what you read in the press…keep in mind that many reported pitbull attacks have turned out to be other breeds…don’t believe everything you read…OR if you do like to read, pick up a book called “Fatal Dog Attacks” by Karen Delise…she did the study for the CDC…you’ll probably be surprised.

Answer #5

Maybe you shouldn’t keep them together. I used to have a pitbull and so did my friend and everytime I would walk it my friend’s would come out and attack it. I don’t think it’s their nature to get along with each other.

Answer #6

u also have to be aware of whether or not they are truley attacking or just playing…I have two pits who “fight” all day long but they never hurt each other…dogs are just like us in a lot of ways the same way guy friends me play fight and wrestle dogs do the same you may thing they are trying to kill each other but they may just be playing around other than that you should take the advise of Phrannie
