Can I move out at age 16?

my parents are in the proces of getting a divorce and things at home are hard for me. I dont want to live at my moms house because I want to stay in my home town. I have been going to the same school my whole life and it would be really hard for me to leave it. I dont want to live at my dads house because he has been doing pills for the past 2 years and I cant trust him any more. he says he has quit and he is in drug rehab, but sometimes I still think he is taking pills. everything at home is really stressful for me and it makes it hard for me to consintrate in school. I feel that if I live on my own I will be more responcable and it will be easyer for me to focus on my school work. I have a truck I am looking for a job and I think that when I get a job I will be able to finantualy provide for myself. how do I move out legally?

I’m not sure if its legal. But you moving out at 16 is going to hurt you even more, in all honesty. I don’t think thats the best thing for you right now, it will just make things worse. I think you need to just face the problems your having right now instead of running away from them. Your parents need you, both of them. Even though it probley doesn’t seem that way right now. Hang in there.

Yes, you would have to file a Petition, with the Court having Jurisdiction in your area. It is called a Petition for Emancipated Minor. The Court will consider, where you will live, what your parents input is, where and how you will attend school, etc.

If Granted, you will legally have all the rights of an 18 year old.
