how can i tell my boyfriend i've been self-harming for years now?

Answer #1

Well, first of, you really want to break it gently. Dont do it out of anger or whatever. Then you just explain why you’ve been doing it. Oh, and consider getting help. It is really unhealthy and really things get worse over time, not better, when you’re hurting yourself.

Answer #2

Just be open and honest with him…he’ll appreciate the fact you trusted him enough to tell him

Answer #3

if you have a good relationship with him, just come out with it, cause he should be sensitive enough to try and help u if yall are serious

Answer #4

im just scared ill cry or something..or he’ll be upset with me. [im seeing a councellour actually, trying to stop] thanks for this advice!

Answer #5

Well there’s no real way to tell him. Self harming is a serious thing and you should talk to him about it and let your feelings out. Maybe get some help? There’s no other way to do it. I hope this helps at all and I wish you lots of luck!

Answer #6

And, I dont mean to come off all preachy or whatever. Just been there, done that. Still have scars 10 years later, but I think the emotional scars are a whole lot worse.

Answer #7

not preachy, just wise words being passed on. i have bad scars.. and yeah..the emotional is bad..i jsut dont wanna sit around and hit this from him cuz it just makes me feel worse..

Answer #8

Nothing wrong with crying. And I’m not dismissing your fears. I think a whole lot of the reason I cut was so that I didnt cry. And he may be upset. I cant predict his reaction. Most of my friends were upset. But mostly because they loved me and didnt want to see me in pain. Talk to your counselor. And tell him you’re talking to a counselor. It helps people feel less responsible if they know someone else is there looking out for you. And good luck. I know how hard it is to quit.

Answer #9

If you think it’s the right thing, then tell him. Just be careful. Sometimes the people who love me felt like it was their fault.

Any time. I think you’re very brave and you’ve got a lot of strength to be tackling this. Dont underestimate yourself. It’s not easy to give something up. I think it’s amazing you’re willing to give yourself a chance.
