What should my body temperature be while pregnant?

Okay so I believe I am pregnant. I’ve been on many websites and they’ve all said that a raised body temperature is an early symptom. Even before a missed period. While all of them said that it’s a symptom, none said how high my temperature has to be for it to matter. One said slighty higher, and that I had to check in the mornings. Before I even got out of bed. Well, I’ve checked it the same time for two days now and it’s been 99.4 both times, or around there. The average is 98.6 Is it possible that my temperature being slighty higher than normal is a symptom? Or just coincedence?

Im a family planning doctor in england sohopemy advice helps.

It is hard to say that you are pregnant from just having raised temperature for just 2 days - as a raised temperature over just a few days canmean literally anything - you maybe starting with an illness such as a cold or flu - also your temperature raises when you are due to start your period.

I usually recommend that my patients measure their temperature over 18 days - if over this period the temperature is still raised then I usually offer a pregnancy test (if not already done so).

Measuring the temperature is what people used to do in the ‘old days’ to confirm pregnancy - however with todayus technology and so on - you can tell by a simple pregnancy test from the store or your GP / Doctor / Medical Centre. Raised temperature alone is not a fool proof way of diagnosing pregnancy - because many things can cause your temperature to raise.

Hope this helps

If you’re trying to use temperature as a means of detecting pregnancy, then you’re beating a dead horse … temperatures fluctuate constantly, and the smallest change in temperature could mean pregnancy, or it could mean the onset of a flu.

If you want to find out if you’re pregnant, take a pregnancy test.
