You see...FunAdvice's income comes from ads placed on our site by advertisers who found that our site is appropriate to sponsor their business. When we have our boards full of words that are considered offensive to some, we end up with advertisers pulling off the site, and that, in the end, costs us. So, we came up with the "mature content" section of the site, so that these words can be used by the members, if they insist that they are necessary, but so that they are not blatantly visible on our front page, thereby not offending our sole source of income.
But her whole point seems( to me at least) to be that often you cannot use the word Penis even when is is the proper word. Further more, although you can use various other things that OBVIOUSLY represent penis e.g. by replacing the letter i with ! (exclamation mark). You cannot use the word for a male chicken even if you wanted to make a point about "cock-crow" at the break of dawn.
The censoring criteria are just totally cockeyed at times.

Well, it looks like I may get censored on my very first day here... (oh well) but I think that if the word cock is used as the above person stated, as in "the cock crowed" and that gets censored because the word can also mean something related to male genitalia, that's ludicrous.
Censoring a word because it gets misused is paranoia at its worst and what is wrong in this country.
Have you people ever heard of freedom of speech or does that get censored out too?
I agree with you (as I am sure you can tell from my other posts in this thread). The problem appears to be that the censoring is done automatically by the site software, that just looks for "banned" combinations of letters. The software cannot understand the context of those letters, and it would take too long for a human "moderator" to check for acceptable context in all automatically censored posts before they are published to the web.
Yes... I see. It is crazy but it cuts down on the abuse, I suppose. I'm with you though... that is out there. You would think that cock, penis, etc would be acceptable and the censorship would pick up actual curse words.
Technology... it's good and it's bad.
Because they like you to use words like wee-wee, or pee-pee, so as not to offend some of the prudes, or make the pre-teen users giggle too much.
Because "Penis" is the proper word. It's what it's called.
