What does bloody mean in england?

What does the term “Bloody” mean and where does it come from?

I.e “That is bloody funny!”

Not bloody as in covered in blood but like the adjective.

I guess it’s like the british term for “very” or if you live in New England, “wicked!” so like “that is very funny!” …’extremely’ is also a good synonym. no idea where it comes from though, sorry!
