Blood Blister on earlobe?

Back in June or July I got a new piercing in my upper earlobe. It went through the normal routine of infect, hurt, heal, lather_rinse_repeat. However, within the last 2 months or so, it got infected again and nothing I did would make it go away. It felt like it hadn’t healed at all, and after all this time you would think that it would have. I know it isn’t the earring itself, as I made sure it was a gold stud. (im allergic to silver.)

More recently, I noticed a swelled area in the back of the earring so I switched the stud out to my hoop so that I could clean it easier without the hole closing up or getting irritated. The swelled area ended up turning into what -appears- to be a blister of some sort. Its dark in colour, kinda squishy, and looks like it may have pus inside. Several hours online have narrowed it down to one of three things: A standard issue infection, A standard issue blood blister due to irritation, or a cyst.

I went to see a doctor for it. He took a rather fast glance at it, proclaimed it to be infected, and gave me antibiotics for it along with a saline soak. Which would be all well and good if it weren’t for the fact that the pills are giving me such bad heartburn that I haven’t slept more than a few hours in 3 days now. It seriously feels like ill vomit lava if I lay down.

Personally I think the doctor is insane but I don’t have another to go to and this thing freaking hurts. The pills haven’t done a beneficial thing at all and the stupid blister thing keeps getting bigger every day. The saline soak hasn’t done anything short if drying out the skin. Is there anything I can do? If I don’t fix this soon my work is going to start suffering. D:

I plan on going back before theyre finished and trying to see a different doctor. I highly doubt that a doctor can make a diagnosis in under 30 seconds. I was hardly in that room for 2 minutes and he barely let me get a word in. got to love understaffed clinics. Get the current one out and the next one in as quickly as possible to make quota for the day. -.-;

Keep in mind that the doctor has to rule out certain possibilities. He’s not a psychic, but he is sure to known an infection when he sees it.

Most likely the antibiotics he gave you were to make sure there wasn’t an infection, and once you have finished taking them, you are expected to go back and see him if the problem isn’t resolved.

It could take a couple of visits by the time an official diagnosis is given. Don’t just let it fester, though. If antibiotics haven’t shown any improvement within the first few days - go back.
