Do black labs make good family dogs?

Labs are awesome and extremely loyal to their owners and also with kids. That’s my second favorite dog next to a German Shepard.

I have 1 black and 1 chocolate lab (outside dogs) The black lab is very loving and just wants to be wherever you are and hang out with whatever you are doing, howerever, he needs attention and can get frustrated when we are gone so he digs and digs and digs. The chocolate lab on the other hand is lazy and sleeps. Overall, labs are great. Good watch dogs…..they bark, but won’t bite…..which is the way I like it. I would never have a dog that would actually bite someone, especially a child.

Ir depends on the personality of the lab and if your getting them as a puppy …how well you interact in it’s training. They are known as great family dogs but there are exceptions as with any animal.

Black labs would probably be one of the very best dogs for a family. I think one would make an excellent addition to your family, Angel. :)

Labs are generally good matured and easily socialized dogs. Since they are so popular inbreeding can be a problem if you get a dog from a pet store or puppy mill. The other concern is exercise. Labs were bred to be working dogs and if they don’t get enough exercise and stimulation they can become bored, mischievous and destructive. If you won’t be able to provide enough activity you may be better off with a lower energy dog.
