Been thinking and cant figure out!

Hey im in the midst of attempting to figure out just what it is I would enjoy doing for the rest of my life - career wise - .. How is it that you figured out what it is that you wanted to do? Can you give me any insight to ways of discovering what I would love doing for the rest of my life

I didn’t know what I was going to do as a career (officially) until I was in my last year of high school, but I had a general direction from looking at what hobbies and talents I had. I’d been involved with art from the time I started school and it was something I got a lot of attention for. Liking it allowed me to really pursue it, because you definitely don’t want to get stuck in a career you can’t stay with long-term.

When I got into college I refined my idea of being an artist down to being an art teacher. You like baking, so maybe you should try working at a local bakery for a while and see how you feel about that? You can get some experience and really pick the brains of people who work there for information about being a baker as a career. Food is a really big business all over the world, so if you like it then you’re set.

It might also be worthwhile going to job fairs. If you have a community center around you, you can usually catch one in the spring and summer seasons. Basically, reps come out from businesses and talk to the community about the work they do, sort of like an orientation.

A lot of people also feel as though they can only work one type of career. While school is in session I teach, but when I get home and more during the summer I work with a graphics company designing logos and doing some miscellaneous graphic work for clients. Both are really fun for me because they balance each other out. You can do something similar, you can be a baker and write in a culinary magazine.

Careers aren’t really a solid thing and sometimes you have to hop around a bit before you discover what you’re truly passionate about, but focus on what you love doing and what you really want to try.
