Are the Beatles the most popular band ever/worldwide?

I don’t know about worldwide, but in the U.S. they’re regularly voted the greatest band of all time. As a matter of fact, VH1 just recently released a Greatest Artists special chosen by other musicians and they were the top spot. Sgt. Pepper’s was called thr greatest album of all time and Lennon/McCartney are considered to be amazing songwriters. So yes, I’d say by general consensus they’re they’re the most popular band. I think that they’re one of the bands that made great innovations compared to coeval musicians. And the songs are still good. But I don’t think they really deserve to be called greatest band ever. There have been many other genius song writers and musicians.

I mean, when you go to a record shop today, and look for an album compilation with “music of the 18th century”, you will find Mozart, Beethoven, Bach and some - less significant - others.

I think when you go to an equivalent shop in 300 years and look for “popular music of the 20th century”, you will find the Beatles, Queen, Michael Jackson, Elvis, the Rolling Stones and maybe Buddy Holly, the Beach Boys, REM and some other bands. Maybe even some who are totally unknown today but who will seem important to development of the arts then. Like Pachelbel. i see what you mean, and agree with you in part. There are many genious musicians, but I think (on a global level) the Beatles are the most popular band to this point. micheaL is not calling them the best ever, or asking for anyone’s favorite band, he is asking a factual question of which band has had the most popularity throughout the world. so yes other bands may be “as good” or even “better” based on personal preference, but the Beatles have recieved the most worldwide success.

i like rock music. i just think the beatles sound not good lol. i dont like their sound, i hate their voices. just my opinion tho.
