There isn't a basic mechanism for building a robot. What sort of robot do you want to build, as if you give more detail I may be able to help. All robots will be different.
Well to make a Robert, this would take a man and women getting together and having a child, then hope it was a boy. I don't know of to many girls with the name Robert.
