What aspect ratio should I be using on my camera?

I just realized that when i go print them some people’s head get cut off i usually print 4x6 pictures by the way

Answer #1

4x6” prints used to fit the 24x36mm frame on 35mm film quite nicely. This aspect ratio would be described as 2:3. The problem when we all shot film was that when we got blowups in the common 5x7” 8x10” or 11x14” sizes from 35 some of the long dimension of the frame was cut off. The only reasonably common resolution that I know of that is 2:3 is 3032x2008. If that is available on your camera that should be your best match for 4x6” prints. I generally shoot wider than crop to the desired aspect ratio with photo editing software. That way I have more control of what ends up on the print.
