What's advice for extremely damaged hair?

I have natural medium brown hair, but went to the salon to change it to a dirty blonde. 4 hours of stripping and bleaching later my hair is a ugly orange/red color and EXTREMELY damaged. I went to a new salon and she put in what highlights she could, but says I have to wait about 4 weeks to get more higlights. I am a bartender and honestly we get paid for our looks…I cant wait 4 weeks, so can anyone please help and tell me what I can do so I can go back ASAP??? Thanks so much!!

I don’t know if this will help all , but There are some wigs out there that might have the colour you want and While your treating your hair, cover it with a wig that looks beautifully natural and snug to your head . . . if that works at all . . cuz you know , you Can hide your embaressing color you have now with the wig while you fix Your hair.

My hair is damaged too, your not alone and searching for the RIGHT answers to heal it up!

Why hello Becca…This is Sarah. I’m no hairstylist but my aunt is and this is what I’m working on. What I suggest you do is go to town, I would recommend Shoppers Drug Mart, and get the latest Pantene Pro-V Shampoo and conditionner and a spray-in conditionner. You can get it for dark, medium or light hair. Get the specific kind for your hair (Damaged) and wash your hair thouroughly, and than wash it a second time about 10 min later while you’re in the shower. Than, apply in the palm of your hair, an excessive amount of conditionner. Leave it in for about 20 minutes when you get out of the shower and than rinse. Apply some spray in conditionner to your hair and leave set for about 4 minutes and blowdry. Your hair should be soft and silky. Hope this helps!

So sorry to hear it. Not a whole lot worse for a girl. :) I will personally never go to a salon again to be blonde.

I have bleached my hair over and over and over. Recently I went to get highlights done and basically experienced the exact same thing, even down to the fact the dye wasn’t washed out completely. My hair was also fryed and very porous. Although, most of your damage most likely occurred from a toner being left in your hair for an hour. That stuff can destroy your hair!

First off, DO NOT use Pantene products! That is just very bad advice. Pantene not only contains wax which is cause build up, it also contains alcohol that will dry your hair out. I highly recommend Dove Therapy Intense Damage (The Blue Bottle) shampoo and conditioner. I can’t use any other kind for my hair because of the dryness.

Trust me! I am a cosmetic/skin care/hair care product junkie! I know the products to fix the condition on your hair. As for the red in it, not a whole lot you can do. I know how it feels cause I have a major red pigmentation in my hair and it has been a nightmare trying to rid of it. Still not all the way there. The only thing you can really do is to use a purple/blue shampoo and conditioner. This will neutralize red/brassy tones. A good one is ‘Sheer Blonde® Color Renew Tone-Restoring Shampoo and Conditioner’. I just find others like ‘Silver Brights’ don’t condition hair enough and it ends up tangled. Not good when you have damage.

I would also recommend using a hair polish/gloss. With a hair polish your hair will feel and look way less damaged and it will make it more manageable if your hair is porous. Not to mention make you go less nuts when you touch your hair. Nothing worse than a constant reminder of what happened to your hair. :) For hair polish, I really like ‘CHI Silk Infusion’. Philosophy (from Sephora) has the best hair polish, but they discontinued it.

Here are some products that work absolute wonders on damaged hair. They are pricey though. But the truth is, drug store brands will not fix damage like this.

  • MoroccanOil
  • It’s a 10 Ten - Miracle Hair Mask
  • Lanza Healing ColorCare Trauma Treatment (Leave in Treatment)
  • Aphogee Essential Oils

Oils are very important to use on your hair when it has been fryed. Nothing else will put moisture back in as well. The MoroccanOil can be used for a pre-shampoo treatment, leave in treatment, and reconstructor. I would recommend putting the oils in your hair and try to leave it in as long as possible. And by that, I mean days if you can. After my hair was destroyed, I left the oils in my hair for three days straight and it corrected most of the damage. It’s a 10 Miracle Hair Mask is simply an amazing product! I have never used a conditioning treatment that worked so well.

Use these products and I promise you, you will feel a huge difference. I wish you lots of luck!!! Keep me posted if you can.
