How do I analyse my results for my psychology?

Hi:) I’ve done this questionnaire thing for my psychology work and I’ve been told I have to analyse my results (central tendency & graphological representation)

A sample questionnaire is:

  1. Did you participate in sports at school - Yes or No
  2. If yes how often? 1 2 3 4 5 (1 little, 5 a lot)
  3. Did you play team or alone - Team, alone, both, none
  4. Do you have a gym membership - Y or N
  5. If yes, how often do you go? 1 - 5
  6. How often do you participate in sports? 1 -5
  7. Do you participate in the sport you did as a child? Y or N
  8. How much sport do you do a week? None, 1hr or less, 2-3hr, 4-5hrs, 5+hrs

We’ve had to make up our own questionnaires, mines based on if a child does sport at school will they carry it on in later life, does anyone now how to analyse these results?:) x

I do not do system educational kinda stuff but…i would guess that you should be looking at the results from say question1 as a % of people and the % that question2 answers …say 20 kids do sport and 3 do it at a rating of 5,would be 15% of kids regularly play sport ect…if ya get me?

There’s nothing wrong in having results that are NS. So if your results show NS, that means there wouldn’t be factors that you would have to account for, since probably your sample belongs to an almost normal distribution. Did you do a t-test to measure difference? As in which of both the groups has higher levels of consumption. Once you get a t-test result, just compare both the groups and analyze accordingly. You haven’t analyzed it incorrectly, your sample is just kinda normal thats all! I can only tell you this much because I don’t have anymore information on your results. All the best!

Answer #3

You need to do an “independent groups t-test” to compare the mean response from each group. There’s a video on the page below that will show you how to do this in SPSS.
