All you cheerleaders out there...help!

Well its too last to join football cheer[it started a few weeks ago] but my school also offers basketball cheer

I did cheerleading for 2 years but just the baby stuff.

I can almost do a split I do about 40 crunches every day and I have a treadmill that I’ve been using every day sence I got it.

Im trying to work on my flexibility

I know I can get flexible because I did dance when I was 8-10

But long story short I need help

I want to try out for cheer

I need some tips on the jumps point blank I dont know any jumps

And I need some good streatches and any other cheer wisdom you can give me

Pleaseandthankyou

hey, I’m a cheerleader.

in order to work on your jumps you might want to try jumping off of stairs (not high ones, only like, 3 steps) and doing the basics (toe-touch, pike, tabletob, etc.) and your prep, as for tumbling, well, I’m a flyer, not a major tumbler, so, I cant help you there…

the best advice I could give you is:

SMILE BE LOUD POP YOUR MOTIONS

When you got o tryouts you have to LOOK like a cheerleader:

  1. Hair up
  2. Put a ribbon in your hair ( one that matches your clothes of course)
  3. Cheer Shorts (not basketball shorts)
  4. Roll the sleeves of your shirt up
  5. Tennis Shoes

Have confidence in yourself… If you need help…dont be afraid to ask

The first time I tried out the coach told me this saying to remember : Hands on hips, Smile on lips! I’ve used it for 4 years

GOOD LUCK

well look up cheer jumps like, tie touch, tuck, hurkey ect… When you jump, jump off your toes… If you have the money and time take tunneling, even if only 4 a week

Answer #5

ok, keep your movements sharp! when you jump

bring your legs in front of you…like not in a split…

look up! always look up! OH and if you are trying out

smile and be loud and sharp…most squads don’t care

about how many back hand springs you can do. or if you have your layout

Ok so you have a lot of work to do…

Workouts: 3 miles 3-5 times a week at least crunches-as many as you can handle pushups-as many as you can handle

Stretching: splits splits splits butterflies pizzas(the stretch) hurky stretches both sides

Pointers:

At Tryouts- wear school colors look prepy dont overdue the makeup no jewelry(yes I said NO jewelry) proper cheerleading shoes

How to get the judges Attention- yell loud-dont scream stick all of your motions do all the tumbling you know how to do well!

goodluck!

im a cheerleader too!

so for the stretching and flexibility: just work for like 20 minutes per day, doing normal stretches. reaching down and touching your toes sitting and reaching out for your toes and also try pulling your foot up in back of your, it stretches your back do backbends, too

then the jumps: so basically a toe-touch is self-explanatory. you jump up and do a strattle, reaching for your toes but not bending your back a pike it when you try to bring your feet straight out in front of you in the air and touch your toes a tuck is just jumping up with your knees bent basically a herkey/hurtler is when you jump up with one foot extended straight forward and the other tucked beneath your butt

and now for the cheer wisdom: so I’ve been cheering for like 8 years, and watching my sister cheer even before that. 1)scream loud, but not screeching, theres a big difference 2)yell from your diaphragm, its below your ribcage, to get the feel of screaming from their, practice shouting your abc’s while pressing on it 3)ask questions if your not getting how to do something or they’re going to fast 4)if you’re still not getting it, ask another cheerleader to help you sometime after school 5)remember cheerleading’s a team sport, you’re only as good as your worst cheerleader. if someones doing bad, offer to help them nicely 6)SMILEEE! and make other fun facial expressions at the crowd and judges. but dont wink or do anything too cheesy, it looks bad.

GOOD LUCKK! (:

Stretching! most important thing for flexibility! you need to do it basically everyday or you will lose what your working for.. remember that you need to hold every stretch at least 30 sec, a min is a good amount, to get a real good progresive stretch.. if your working on your splits just sit in then for a min, have someone gently push down on your hips, and make sure your not turning your ips out. For jumps you need a lot of core musceles.. 40 situps a day really wouldn’t do a lot.. try doing 100-200, it’ll only take 5 min and its really not as hard as it sounds.. just do 5 different sets of different sit ups ( front, both sides, legs straight up, legs up in stratle) 25 each (x2). make sure when you prep for jumps and land with your feet totally together… when your hitting moves make sure that you hit them strong but dont over extend them, they should be slightly infront of you so you can still see them from the corner of your eye, it looks much better wow I have so much more I could say but I think you have a good handle of things.. make sure to ask coaches or captains or any other cheerleader when you need help! Good Luck!
