Should I try talking to her by myself?

ok so ill start from the begining…there was this girl I liked and I made a comment to my friend about her. He happened to know her well and said I can try to hook you up. So he started mentioning my name ot her because she didnt know me at all. She seemed interested because she was always curious as to who I was. My friend wanted us to meet so agreed. but it was worst possible thing ever…it was during our wrestling practice we got a water break so we ran up to the fountain. He knew she was getting ready for gymnastics so he me come over to him…I am VERY shy around girls I dont know especially meeting the first time, I just said hi to her and went off becuase my frined just sat there laughing at both us since he thought it was funny…she yelled at him “why do you have to make everything awkward” ( he does that a lot not just for this situation) and walked one way and I decided to get back to practice becuase I was nervous,,,he kept telling us to both ocme back but we went seperate ways…I just want to know does she even like me or should I try talking to her by myself, she is usually with her friends which I want to try not talking to her in front of…but I have no idea what to tlak about… at all…I know she is in german 4 and im in 3 but I really dont know anything that I can talk about with her
