14K gold rings are turning dark, how to clean it?

Hi!

I got a couple of nice rings, well I thought they were nice, but as I wear them certain spots on the ring are turning dark. they are supposed to be 14 karat gold. does this mean they’re fake? how do I clean the dark spots off?

Answer #1

If you want to get fancy with them, go to a hardware store and ask for “jewelers rouge” for gold. (Many times you can buy a small quantity from stores that sell “dremel” tool accessories).

Jeweler’s rouge is a polish for metal. You have to get the kind that is for gold however.

Another thing that use to work pretty good is cleaning them with a soft cloth and toothpaste.

try baking soda water and a toothbrush

14k does not mean they are fake..it just means that its not pure gold..its mixed with silver most likely
