FunAdvice Trivia: Where did the nickname "Tennessee Volunteers" originate?

A) The American Revolution B) During the American Civil War C) The War of 1812 D) At The Alamo

Answer #1

I think A

Answer #2

D) The Alamo. I believe they fought under Davy Crocket. Interesting how many hit the football team had, compared to the actual tennessee volunteers.

Answer #3

It’s the war of 1812… specifically with the number of volunteer infantrymen in the Battle of New Orleans under Major General Andrew Jackson. My great-whatever grandfather was one such volunteer, along with his three brothers who lived around Fort Nashborough at the time.. now Nashville.

Answer #4

Though I must add… being an ardent UK wildcat fan… Rocky Top sux big time… especially this year.

Answer #5

C) The War of 1812.

Answer #6

Answer #7

Both answers are acceptable: C) The War of 1812 D) At The Alamo While the origin was back in 1812, the name became more widely known during the battle at the Alamo, however, the name didn’t become general knowledge for several years after.

Answer #8

The lovin’ spoonful would have made a nice selection too. I’ve never heard this version before… thanks

Answer #9

Johnny Horton popularized a shorter version later, but this is the original as Jimmy Driftwood wrote and performed it. My pleasure {:^) And I’m glad you caught my Lovin’ Spoonful reference!

Answer #10

Yes… very much appreciated.
