My dog & opinion

I came on here to find out if my female pitbull is pregnant, but it seems to me everyone more worried about spaying their animal. And some people on here don’t know nothin aout breeding lol. First off a dog is not pregnant no 6months they are only pregnant for 63 days. So yeah that was not to smart. Another thing everyone is so worried about spaying and neutring their animal…how about we spay and neuter you. It is proven that when you spay and neuter your pet the temperment changes for the worst most of the time. How would you like it if someone took your man hood not to good. You would be moody. I just dont think spaying and neutring your pet is always the best way. Now all I wanna know is what I came here to find out. How do I know if my dog is pregnant?

I agree. spaying and neutering a dog or cat only has a bad effect on temperament on rare occasions and it isnt proven that it is defiantely the spaying that has caused it. Talk to your vet about that if you are concerned about the consequences. I think everyone just likes to encourage the spaying and neutering because they know how many strays and excesses of domestic animals we have now. I work at a cat rehoming shelter in england and it is sad to see so many homeless cats and they even have to bring in the strays and spay them- then put them back as is too late to tame and home them. Its just being respinsible really. It is not usually obvious straight away that a dog is pregnant. Look for changes in appetite and sleepiness (just like with humans) developing new lives inside them makes them tired :) Most people notice pregnancy in their dog only when their tummy or sides start getting a bit bigger and harder. unless you are a proper breeder and take them to the vets early on when you hope they may be pregnant its just a waiting game. good luck with the pups if there are any!

I work at Seven Bends Veterinary Hospital. And you are wrong about the temperment of spaying and neutering the dogs, Also if you do this before there first heat you decrease the chances of them getting certian types of cancer. Male dogs will not “mark” there territory. Have bad behaviour. And be so dominante. Have you not seen how many PITTS are at shelters waiting on death row to die? I believe I attached a couple of pounds on your last question where 90% of the dogs were pitts or mixed pitts? SO YES OFCOURSE WE ALL HAVE A STONG OPINION ABOUT YOU BREEDING A PITT. not because they are bad dogs, it’s the people who train them to be bad, I love pitts, I think they are beautiful. HOwever why would you add to this breed that already needs so many homes? AND you should not breed a dog or whelp a litter unless you know a little something about it.

  1. count 63 days from the first time you saw them tie
  2. a vet can palplate to feel for puppies at a certian stage, (call your vet)
  3. ultra sound can be done
  4. wait to see her belly grow ( 40days) movement, and milk
  5. increase food, laying around, “nesting”
  6. around 58-60 days have x-ray done to know how many to expect
  7. get a dog pregnancy test done, (very pricey)
  8. GET her spayed and don’t worry about it.
  9. read up and do research on Whelping Pitbulls, or dogs Gestation and what to expect.

10,. Understand why us people who do know a thing or two about animals would be so upset by you breeding a pit, or the good that can come from having a dog fixed, and the bad that can happen when you don’t. Then you can come on here and have a good debate about why you think it is ok to keep the dog intact and breed her.

I’m sorry, but you’re wrong. Spaying/neutering rarely alters the personality of the animal, and when it does, it’s usually for the better…males have less chance of wandering away to mate, and aggression is tapered.

Spaying / neutering also eliminates the animal’s chance of getting ovarian or testicular cancer.

PS- I worked at an animal shelter in Miami, FL. where pitbulls are illegal. Thousands of pitbulls are killed there every year because people don’t bother to spay/neuter their pets, and then breed them without having homes first. Anyone who has worked in that situation has the right to judge, especially when you come here asking for advice.

I do realise your problem, but a lot of people here feels strongly about breeding any more animals because there is allready so many puppies and unwanted dogs in shelters AND being abused, especially pit bulls. so please try and understand.
