I'm having proablems with my laptop

Hi my laptop daily will just turn off on it’s own while I’m typeing reading web sites I’ve had this laptop sense either Sept 2007 or Oct 2007 can anyone tell me why or even maybe one of the proablems and how I fix it?

I am an I.T. manager for my company and deal with computer issues on a daily basis. With that qualifying statement out of the way, I have two thoughts for you:

  1. Do you have updated anti-virus software installed? 1a) If so, when was the last time you did a full scan of your hard drive?

  2. Do you have any keys/buttons on your laptop that would cause your machine to shut off/stand by if it were to be accidentally pressed?

If you answered “no” to #1, I would recommend that you purchase “SpySweeper with Anti-virus” by Webroot. I have found that to be good consumer-level protective software. That or any anti-virus software offered by Norton or Symantec (same company, by the way).

If this doesn’t solve your problem, the next thing I would suggest is to take your laptop to a service center and have them run diagnostics on your power supply. My gut feeling is that it may be bad. If your machine is still under warranty, make sure you take advantage NOW and get it to an authorized warranty repair center.

I’m not sure but, if you go to your control panel and go where it says power options, you could either adjust your power settings, or if that doesn’t work, you could always take it back to where you bought it and have them figure out what the problem is. Mine does that every so often. You’re not alone. In fact, I’ve had my laptop since January of 2007. Of course mine could be on standby. You could always check if your computer is on standby. Otherwise if this problem continues, take it to where you bought it and find Geek Squad.
