Commune living

I am very interested in commune living. So, I was wondering if anyone has lived on a commune or if anyone knows someone who has or does? Please share your information about it with me! Peace!

My advice to you is twofold: make sure you spend a week or two living at a commune before you decide to move there for good. This will allow you to experience their pace of work and lifestyle, and decide if you like it. More important, it will allow you to get to know the people you’ll be living with, and if you can learn to trust them (commune living fails without trust).

The second thing I advise you to do is make sure you have a useful skill, or set of skills. A serious commune has no place for “freedloaders”. I’m not saying you’re one or that you have no skills :), I’m just warning you that true communes expect you to contribute something and work hard. If you know how to garden, sew, work with wood or metal, basic medical care, or even how to manage money, most communes could use your help. Good luck!

I have lived in community for over 15 years and there is so much to say I wouldn’t know where to begin.

You should check out www.ic.org which has links to hundreds of communes and other types of intentional communities around the US and the world. There is even a bulletin board where you might get more answers to your questions. You could also try intentionalcommunity.tribe.net for a discussion group.

my best friends older sister is going to live in one in west virginia as soon as a land issue is cleared up I’ll be sure to tell you how it is when she gets there I think it sounds interesting but older people I’ve talked to said your roommates or neighbors or whatever get EXTREMELY annoying after a while and they just wanted some peace and solitude
