Pumpkin & Yogurt

My mother has a 30 lb cat. She issists that her vet told her to feed this cat 1-1/2 cups of cat food a day which in my opinion is entirely too much food.

My mother also gives this cat canned Pumpkin and Yogurt (not atthe same time, but at least a few tbsp of each 4-5 times each week.

I can’t imagine that this would be good for the poor obese cat, but wanted to ask your opinion.

I’ve heard of canned pumpkin helping cats with digestive issues. It’s best to ask the vet, however.

Hello, A 30lb cat should eat about 3/4 cup a aday of a low fat cat food. when you add yogurt or pumpkin in there decrease the dry food. I understand its hard not to spoil them, but your mom is killing her cat slowly by allowing it to be overweight and eat too much.

I had a maine coon cat that got to be 40 lbs at his biggest, he was healthy, he was just a large breed of cat - 1 1/2 cups of food for a large healthy cat seems fine, spaced out through the day - if the cat is over weight I would suggest asking the doctor about a chicken a rice diet until they can thin out - but I also have to agree, call the vet and see if you mom misunderstood…

30 pounds? I didnt know cats could get that large. I give my cat about 1 and a half cups of food a day… there are diet foods? and she definitely needs to stop with the canned food completely… my vet said it isnt necessary unless the cat isnt drinking water… this is best done with the vet though…
