Why do people like Obama?

To me he seems just too much of a personality, and not a president.

Do you think people are going to vote for him because he is likable?

Answer #1

4/29/08: FINALLY, Barak ‘I can no more disown Rev. Wright than the black community’ Obama, has had a sudden change - people I know came to that very same conclusion (Wright is wrong) a very long time ago - just 48 hrs ago he was defending Rev. Wright - today the sudden change - some chickens have apparently come home to Roost !

Answer #2

I dont like obama and its not because he is black its because I wouldnt fell protected if their was terriost attack becuase he seems to be kind of like a wimp and not to be racist but if obama was white he wouldnt have the majority of black people on his side

Answer #3
  1. Because he says that he can bring the troops home -Which is completely false because it isn’t up to him whether the troops come home
or not. And it would be completely stupid of anyone to do that because we would
just seem like pansies to the terrorists because we got out of there, so they will
    attack us again.
  2. Because he promises “change” -We have yet to know what this “change” might be.
Answer #4

Answer #5

I think he is a likeable person and we need a change. Besides how much more damage can he do that Bush Jr has not already done? We have had enough for the same kind of President. The last 3 Presidents have the same MO! RICH OLD- WHITHE MEN, (NO IM NOT BLACK) who either ran our economy into the ground or embarrassed us as a Nation with his lying under oath about haven sex in the whitehouse. Enough already! People say the Mrs. Clinton is that change however! She had her turn for 8 yr. How? when Bill was in office they both ran the country and if she gets back in office we will have more of THEM running things. Besides I don’t trust people who will do their own spouse dirty, If Mrs. Clinton did not have an agenda (the Presidency) she would have left Bill a long time ago. They have no love, trust, respect or loyalty for eachother. So how can I be sure they will have it for me and my country?

Answer #6

I’ve been following the only near & dear issue to my wallet re: the candidates…and from what I’ve read, Obama has the most well articulated technology plan of all the candidates. Given my ownership of FunAdvice, and passion for all things digital, I want a guy (or woman) in office who understands these things.

Hillary doesn’t have as well articulated a technology strategy…so, Obama’s better on that front.

However, I thought Bill made a good president, and I think he’d make a good, um, “first husband?” lol.

Answer #7

He actually has a stand on certain issues Hillary refuses to take a position on… He may not be as experienced, but he isnt avoiding the issues, and he has concrete plans in some areas… I dont think that would be true if all he was running on was charisma…

Answer #8

BECAUSE THE MEDIA LOVES HIM THEY DON’T CARE,HE KNOWS NOTHING OR HAVE ZERO EXPERIENCE.

Answer #9

personally me, I dont like him but then again, I dont like any of them

Answer #10

Answer #11

I agree wholeheartedly. Obama has too much charisma and not enough substance. He could be a total dud of a president because he’s had virtually no experience and his knowledge of foreign policy is mediocre at best.

That being said, Hillary isn’t much better. I still choose Team Clinton over Team Obama, but there’s not much difference.

Answer #12

And, ah, yes, I agree with you too, krittytang. For all we know, the “Change We Can Believe In” is a switch to a totalitarian dictatorship. Well, I’m kidding, of course, but the promises of change are boring and trite. Get a new gimmick, Obama.

Answer #13

its just nobody like hilary; plus there are a lot of sexists out there :(

Answer #14

Because he’s not Bush, and because he’s black. The only two things anyone cares about.

Answer #15

Because stupid people think he will give them a free ride.

Answer #16

You seem to have inside information on Bill and Hillary’s relationship. What are your sources?

Answer #17

He wants to help the elderly with taxes and lower income people. That’s my kind of president! Obama all the way!

Answer #18

Obama voting:

Obama voted against the confirmation of John Roberts for the Supreme Court, saying he “far more often used his formidable skills on behalf of the strong in opposition to the weak.” He also cast a vote against Samuel Alito and even voted in favor of a filibuster to stall his confirmation. Obama opposed a bill in 2006 that would have denied citizenship or other legal status to illegal immigrants, and voted last year against a measure that would have allowed police to question people about their immigration status under certain circumstance. He voted in favor of the immigration reform bill sponsored by John McCain and Ted Kennedy that would have allowed many illegal aliens to become legal residents. Last October Obama voted for an act that would have allowed illegal immigrants who become permanent legal residents to qualify for lower in-state tuition rates at state universities. That measure was opposed by Democrats in a number of swing states that could be pivotal in this year’s election, MSNBC observed. The Illinois Senator voted against a 2006 bill to prohibit the transportation of a minor girl across state lines to get an abortion if this would circumvent parental consent. Obama voted against a bill extending the cuts in capital gains and dividends tax rates that Congress enacted in 2003, and against the repeal of the tax on inherited wealth, the estate tax. In June 2006, Obama voted against a bill that would have required President Bush to withdraw most U.S. troops from Iraq by July 1, 2007. But this past September, he joined 27 other Democrats in voting for a bill ordering Bush to begin withdrawing most American forces within 90 days. The bill failed to pass. He is against making English the official language.

Answer #19

After watching the Obama speech today, I have some Random thoughts:

  • He stated previously that he was not present at any of these inflammatory sermons, yet today said ‘I was’.

  • Previously stated he wasn’t aware Rev Wright was ‘controversial’, yet months ago the reason he gave for canceling Rev Wright to give the prayer at his entering the race announcement was ‘some of his sermons are kind of rough’.

  • His wife is middle-aged, yet she states ‘now is the first time I have been proud of America in my lifetime’ (not exact words but close).

  • it is common for people to judge people by ‘the friends they keep’

  • I find many of Rev Wright’s views frightening for many reasons.

  • it seemed to me he was saying in the overall tone of the message - whites are racist / African-Americans are not.

  • he seemed to equate what Rev Wright said with what Geraldine Farraro said.

  • he remembered what his Grandmother’s views were from childhood, yet not more recent views of Rev Wright.

  • seems to me if you genuinely believe for 20 years he did not notice / figure out what was coming from that pulpit - how can one come to the conclusion as President he would have the ability and awareness to recognize bad judgement, execute due diligence, and be able to accutely discern matters - be an effective Leader of the Country.

  • He is selling himself as very different from Rev Wright, he refuses to totally separate himself.

Again, these are just Random thoughts I had which I think merits ‘food for thought’.
