Why is it Still Celebrated as the Birth of Christ?

Why is the Winter Solstice/Yule still called Christmas? Why is it still celebrated as the birth of Christ? The bible describes the event of Christ's birth taking place in late spring or early summer. His birth was originally celebrated on the 6th of January(I know it's not spring, so don't bother pointing that out, I'm just dispensing the facts here). His birth was later set on Dec 25th by the Roman Catholic church, in hopes to gain more converts(his death on another pagan festival, Austria,-Easter- in celebration of the fertility Goddess), this is no secrete. How come it was never set back to the original date of celebration? I can understand the hassle it would be to change the date of the holiday, ect. But it was done before.
