What should I do for low impact cardio exercises?

I have a bad knee, so it’s hard for me to stand too long. Right now, I’m riding an exercise bike that’s in the rec room here at the apartment building. Other than riding the bike, what would you suggest for low impact cardio?

Answer #1

. Bouncing on a trampoline / “trampete”. .

Answer #2

. Swimming is usually safe as well, but a lot depends upon the specific knee injury that you have suffered. .

Answer #3

I don’t know if that’s such a good idea. I’m worried that my 250+ pound frame would break the damn thing.

Answer #4

Yeah 250+ pounds if a bit much - see my other post. .

Answer #5

“… IS a bit much …”

I didn’t injure my knee. it’s been screwed up pretty much since birth. I’ve had surgeries to try to correct the problem. I mean, before my heel cord lengthening surgery, I had a very noticeable limp. Oh, and I LOVE swimming! I go to the Y every Monday with some of my neighbors in the building.

Answer #7

Sounds like you should just stick to the swimming then. I honestly believe that swimming is the absolute best form of cardio exercise bar none - as long as there is no medical reason against it - as you seem to be suggesting. .

Answer #8

This may sound weird, but because of the mild Cerebral Palsy on my left side, I can’t kick while swimming. Mainly, when I try to kick, my right leg can, but my left leg mostly flops around. I’m not making this up. I’m speaking from experience. When I was a kid, people always told me to kick, and I said that I couldn’t. Of course no one believed me, except my parents.Mainly, I propel myself around in the pool with my arms.

Answer #9

Both “ Back Stroke “ and “ Front Crawl “ are very effective with most of the effort made via the arms and merely a twisting motion of the hips. Also, “ ‘ Fly “( butterfly ) is still quite effective with one leg impaired. It is only really Breast Stroke that suffers badly if the legs do not manage to balance one-another symmetrically. I would definitely go for swimming. Any lower limb limitation must be well within your subconscious control and experience by now, if this is a long-standing problem. .
