Best cardio exercise machine? I ask this question for my mom, as she recently joined a gym, and wants a low impact sport, that will help her lose weight. I will add that she does have knee problems.
For low impact cardio the best workout you will be able to find is a simple water-arobics class. Even easier than that is just swimming. This is a great cardio workout that makes you use you entire body with no impact what-so-ever. Unfortunately most gyms do not offer a pool but these classes can easily be found at a public pool. If this still cannot be attained an eliptical training machine would probably be best for low impact workouts. its a great cardio machine and encourages use of your arms extencively in addition to the running motion.
The best that I can advise is the stair stepper it burns a lot of calories but at the same time is low impact. Although she may not be able to work on it for long due to her knee problem. A cross trainer is also great probably a bit gentler on the knees. Mom should try them out and see which works best with her knees but both I assure you are great calorie burners.
