how do I start a petition? I really want to fight this

There is supposed to be a skatepark being built in astoria park in astoria queens but the people that run laps and stuff are arguing that we are gonna make too much noise . I wanna start a petition with some of my friends so that they can get started. So how do I get the petition papers?

I was going to do the same thing a few years ago to get a skatepark built in my area but didn’t need to because after 10 years of other people petitioning for it, it was finally getting built but I wrote about how around 50% of kids own or have owned a skateboard, even more so a bike and a skatepark is the perfect place for kids to practice and have fun, hang out they don’t make much noise at all in fact you wont even hear them over all the noisy cars its really just something that almost every town needs they’ll be getting good exercise too and its not just for kids its for people of all ages, both young and old you probably don’t need to write all that I dont think you need any special papers either just get any piece of paper and write “these are all the people that are FOR building the skatepark in (area)” then get as many people as you can to sign it or if you want you can do it online and get people to add there names

Do your research… For your city councilperson.

  1. find other cities that have skateparks, list them
  2. list your reasons a skatepark would be beneficial

A petition…

  1. usually carries more weight when legal voters from that city sign it.
  2. the heading should list exactly where the skatepark will be built
  3. ask signers to write their name and zip code (that shows their voting district)
  4. Approach a councilperson but not on the steps outside their office. Go to the office, speak with the secretary and ask for an appointment. Then be there for the appt. 15 minutes early, nicely dressed and present your research and petition.

My animal rights group has had several laws passed by handling things in this manner.

Find out who your City Counselman is in your district and read his web page on his veiws about how he feels about the the community. That may give you some leverage on his personality and how to approach this.Naturally if you call him theres a good possibility that he will be unavailable. But when you appoach him you need to have at least 1/3 of your community sign a potician.Find out if it has to be noterized. Then sit in front of his steps(at his office). find out what are his working hours and when he will be in.Then in a friendly but professional way approach him but Command his attention ( in a stern ‘won’t take no for an answer approach.write me and let me know how it turns out.my e-mail address is Msmellowmadness59@yahoo.com. I hope that I have been of some help to you.
