Why don't people realize the atrocities in the Congo?

For years people in the congo have been suffering. It is because of the colonization of Africa that this region is struggling. We (well many european powers) set up this region for failure. Why don’t we give it the help it deserves?

Black. There is your answer. People claim that during Katrina there was no discrimination. When I saw a sea of black faces on the TV, I wasn’t so sure.

Answer #2

Well for one thing, most people dont know there’s a country called Congo, or have any idea where it is, or what you’re talking about. For another, the Europeans arent trying to be the world police. The Europeans have probably learned from the U.S. that trying to police the world will not get them anywhere. To name a few examples of unwise decisions, Korea, Vietnam, Iran, Afghanistan (twice, they first gave them the weapons to fight off the Soviet Union, then they went back in when they decided they needed to change the government and oh look they cant leave). And honestly, what can one do? The country is in shambles, pouring in money is not going to help because of the amount of corruption. The people themselves need to have some sort of revolution and get things back into order.

Answer #3

Ty and fillet is correct.

You know what I think (I have lived in Africa all my life). People should stop giving Africa handouts and then they will be forced to think and work for themselves and sort out their own problems. So what if they are struggling, when the current world super powers were going through times of change they sorted it out themselves.

The reason Africa is in such a dilemma overall is because everyone just keeps giving and giving, it’s like a child, you keep spoiling them and they won’t get anywhere in life.

Answer #4

Most Americans don’t even know about the conflict in Congo let alone that it is the bloodiest war since WWII. I’m not sure if Europeans are as ignorant about the violence in Africa as Americans are but for most people stateside it isn’t even on their radar screen of problems. I heard it mentioned only one time during our election debates and I probably wouldn’t know about it except through my Amnesty International newsletters.
