solve the linear equation

Find x and why that are the same in each equation.

the two equations are

x+2y=1 & 5x-4y=-23

Answer #1

Hmm ok, well there’s two ways to do this… there’s substitution and then another method that I cant remember the name of, I’ll show you both ways…

Substitution

Equation 1: x + 2y = 1 Change equation one so that you get the value of x: x = 1 - 2y Insert the value of x into the second equation, so 5 (1-2y) - 4y = -23 Open the equation 5 - 10y - 4y = -23 Solve: 5-14y = -23 -14y = -28 y = 2 Plug why back into the first equation: x + 2(2) = 1 x + 4 = 1 x = -3 Check…

5(-3) - 4(2) = -15 - 8 = -23

OTHER METHOD…

Make x in both equations the same so multiply first equation by 5: 5 (x + 2y = 1) = 5x + 10 y = 1

Subtract the second equation from first, so 5x + 10 y = 1 5x - 4y = -23 0x + 14y = 24 y = 2

Plug why back into the first equation: x + 2(2) = 1 x + 4 = 1 x = -3 Check…

5(-3) - 4(2) = -15 - 8 = -23

Answer #2

Lemme ask you something. Is that off you’re math homework? I don’t think you are allowed to do that. If you are just asking for fun then TY pretty much summed it up.
