Staying still for shots

I am getting like 3 shots tommarow and the doctor said I HAVE to stay still for these for some reason. do you no what the hospital can do to like make me stay still? I am nervous something will happen cause theres no way I will stay still

Well, if you don’t stay still, the doctor won’t be able to hit the vein, and so you’ll just be stabbed over and over and over again until you finally take a few deep breaths and calm down. In extreme cases, hospitals will strap down a patient in order to keep them still, but these case are usually life-threatening emergencies.

Chances are, if you don’t look at what he’s doing, you won’t even know it’s coming and you’ll barely feel it when it happens. You’re WAY overthinking this. I’m sure you injure yourself 10 times worse than the pain of a shot 10 times per day.

ok. firstly it depends on what kind of injection you’re having, there’s two main ones beleve it or not;

one is an IM (intramuscular) and the other is a SC (subcutaneous) one means it has to deliever the fluid directly into the muscle, and one into the fat. even in A&E they rarely inject into the vein, they normally just pop a cannula in and do it that way. so unless you are having emergency treatment of something, they are VERY unlikely to put anyting into your vein. let me know what they do, ask them if it’s an IM or a subcut…they SHOULD know what they are lol!

I’m not going to tell you horror stories of what if’s, but what I will say is, it takes a grand total of about 10 seconds to gve an injection (unless its over a certain ml, even then, they’d do that by I’ve more than likely.

what are the shots for? think, what ever they’re for, would you rather have what they’re preventing, or simply 10 seconds of discomfort? tell you what, I do this with younger patients, say to the person doing the injection, can you count from 0 to 10 in seconds, and in your mind, just allocate 10 seconds of your willpower to focussing on the couting NOT whats being done.

its perfectly normal to be nervous, but it is not as bad as you think it will be. honestly try what I said - 10 seconds, that can’t be that bad can it!

I look at em. I talk to the doc while they are doing it and act like its NO BIG DEAL!!! If you have and attitude like, “this is no biggie!” Then it won’t be. But going in nervous as h*ll will tense up your muscles and it’ll hurt. Just tell yourself that the shots are for the best and stay relaxed.

Answer #5

You do realize shots don’t hurt right?

Just look away from where you’re receiving the shot, focus on something that is distant from what’s going on. If you’re worried about the pain, bite your lip…

did it?

That hurts more than any shot I’ve ever had… including the I’ve I got before I went into surgery.

Dont look. It just makes it worse.

The nurses always make me breathe in and out really fast,and then they do it,and you dont feel it,or even know its there untill they tell you theyre done. Try that.It might sem awkward,but heck,theyre used to people flipping out over shots.

I had to get lupron shots every month in my butt and I had to stand on the leg that I was not getting the shot in and dangle the other that was getting the shot in. I put my face on the table and grip the sides really hard and take deep breaths. Thats how I stay still. The reason for mine and why I have to be still is because if my medicine doesn’t go in right it can damage the mus. in my butt and leg. Anyways I hope it goes well I know I couldn’t get 3 back to back there is no way.
