Can the law stop me from moving back to my birth parent?

I’m 17 years old, i was adopted and i want to move in with my sister and real mom this summer. i live in Ohio. my adopted parents are divorced, my adopted mom wants nothing to do with me, can the law say anything if i am to move out this summer?

Answer #1

It appears in Ohio you would still be considered a minor and you could not leave the home of your legal guardian until 18 or a court-ordered emancipation.

OHIO Age Emancipation petition allowed: under 18 years of age. § 2919.12 Age of Majority: 18 § 3109.01

Good Luck and God Bless !!

yes becuase your not 18 yet! you shouln’t want to move out if your mother didn’t want anything to do with you. your adopted parents could help you through college or something. your mother probably won’t! who knows!, you might not feel comfortable with your real mom.

Answer #3

you shouldnt not want to move in with your real mom just because she put you up for adoption. there are many reasons people put their kids up for adoption. age, money problems, health problems. there are alot of reasons and that should definately not stop you. if your adopted mom wants nothing to do with you, then you should try to get emancipated or get her to let your birth mother have legal custody of you.
