I'd like to know what does a Psychiatrist do do they just give you drugs or do they like psychologist try to talk there out problem but can if needed give you drugs to help the problem
Psychiatrists go to medical school and then they specialize in psychiatry... Psychologists spend 5 years either doing a phd in psychology or a doctorate in psychology
In the past, psychiatry was more freudian psychoanalytical based, this has changed... and now psychiatrists use all sorts of therapy methods...
The main difference is that psychiatry tends to be more diagnostic and more medicine based...
Psychiatrists can prescribe medicine while psychologists cannot...
They both deal with the same sort of issues (depression is the most common mental disorder pretty much world wide, and all different mental health workers deal with depressed people, as well as people who have behavioral problems...)
In answer to your question, yes psychiatrists also talk out problems, but it is more expensive to talk out problems with them than with a psychologist
They are very similar, Psychiatrists can prescribe medicine as you stated, however they still talk to the patients as a psychologist would...Psychis tend to deal more with clinical depression, behavior problems, and things of that nature that often times need some sort of medication to help Psychologists deal much more with the reasoning behind things...why did you steal, why do you act out, wht is it that makes you feel that way...type of things...however they often times refer patients to a psychiatrist should they feel medication would be required
So basically: Yes they both talk out and Psychis can write prescriptions while Psychologists cannot
Thats pretty much what I gather from it, Psychatirst is like the doctor, psychologist is like the nurse.
