Than vs. Then

What is the difference? I feel RIDICULOUS for asking this because I’m in advanced placement English so I should probably know the difference…but to be honest I have NO clue :P

THAN..is comparison..and THEN..is like back in time’back then’ or in order…

than is when you are comparing things, like “2 is greater than 1” And then is used like “I’m going home, then I’m going…”

Its just two different ways to say it I dont believe they mean different things.
