Parents and Leaving

Okay, so I’ve been debating about leaving my house since December. I absolutely hate it here. I have zero friends because once people realize I don’t drink they automatically call me boring and a prude. My best friend goes to school in Nor Cal and I live in South Cali. My boyfriend lives a few states away. My bestie and my boyfriend and I have been talking about my bestie and I leaving and going to where he is in August. We would continue going to school and getting degrees. The only thing is, is that my parents hate him and don’t even know that I’m still dating him. I’m afraid they’ll disown me if I leave, but I’ve doing everything they’ve wanted since I was a kid. I want to do something for myself for once. I’ve been told just to leave them a letter and then leave because then I avoid face to face yelling. How should I tell them? Any other ideas or advice?

Just tell them if you’re over 18 that you want to leave and move on with life. Eventually, they need to let you go. Just tell them that you’ll always love them and be there when needed, and also tell them that you need to get away and find a place. If they ask where, you’ll tell them the truth, with your boyfriend and friend. If they start yelling at you, that’s their loss just pack up your stuff and leave. When you do get to your boyfriend’s house, send your parents a letter stating that you’re fine and that you’ll send them pictures of what you find interesting while doing some traveling as well. That’s a great idea. If you don’t want to be face to face, just leave a quick note telling them what’s going on. I know its frightening to face your parents since I know mine did that to me a couple of times for different reasons though. Good luck, and I hope you choose what’s right for you when it comes to convincing your parents.
