Why does my cat puke so much?

Hi,

I have a cat, and every so once in a while… after she eats she would puke it all back out! We fed her normally like usual. Could there be something wrong? I brought her to the vet the other day, that was when her stomach was upset from the shots she had.

  Thanks a ton

my cats puke up hairballs, sometimes just grass, sometimes food, especially dried food, but canned food comes up too… but this is very occassionally… if she is constantly sick then see a vet

a lot of times cats will eat too fast plain and simple.

If there is a lot of fur in the puke, or a fur ball soon after she pukes, then nothing is wrong with the cat or the diet. Some grooming would reduce her need to produce furballs. Cats can be trained to puke or furball in a suitable place- ours is halfway there :-) I feed my cat, Jasmine, on whatever fresh meat or fish we are having, or canned tuna (with the brine washed off) or pilchards . Our supermarket sells reduced cooked chickens most Wednesdays- so that accounts for a lot of her diet, very inexpensively. Ham, smoked salmon and processed meat make her puke without fail. We’ve never once fed her canned food designed for cats as we think its uneccessary, with too much potential of containing toxicity. It wouldnt be much cheaper to give her cat food instead of her regular food, and we love her too much to give her food when we have no way of knowing the safety, origins or content; One story that I read about some pet meat suppliers read that meat, having been deemed unfit for human consumption, gangrene, bones and all - gets put into baths of bleach (yes- bleach) and then washed down with water. It is them minced to pulp , mixed with fillers, shaped into innocuous looking cubes and put in a can with some jelly. Personally, I want my cat to stay healthy so I give her appropriate food for a cat when I can- meat or fish. If I run out of that then she gets fed from the emergency cat biscuits till I go out and buy some proper food.

My cat used to trow up a lot. Is she eating really quickly? Or maybe she’s been eating some dust on the floor. That’s what happened to my cat.

Answer #5

Did your cat just start puking or has she always done it?

Could be whatever shots your vet gave her. Medicine from the vet usually upsets cats’ stomachs.

If it’s a chronic thing, it may be allergy to whatever food she’s eating. A lot of cats seem to be allergic to corn, soy and gluten (both wheat and corn varieties). These are used as filler. You can avoid them by switching to a food such as Natural Balance, that’s what my cat eats.

You can grow and feed her cat grass to help with her digestion.

Or it could be puking up because of too many hairballs, in which case, feed her about 1 tsp of canned pumpking every day per 10 pounds of body weight. and make sure you brush her EVERY DAY (especially if she is a medium or long-haired cat).

My cats have this problem too, it seems to come and go. These days it really just out of hand, they have been puking in my shoes, the shower, in potted plants, back in their our food bowl. Oh and you wouldn’t believe the colors, all the colors in the rainbow. They habitually jump up on the table and puke on my plate while I’m not watching. Some how fluffy got into the oven, then I went to pre-heat the oven for a roast, can you imagine the smell?!!? Any advice will be truly appreciated, barfed on in Boston
