Okay so I just recently accepted buddha's teachings and the ways of buddhism and would like to know how long I should meditate for.
Well there's many different types of meditation practices. Some generally last longer than others. But I recommend not thinking about time. Time is just another distraction and meditation is about letting go of all distractions and being in the moment. Just meditate for as long or short a time as you feel comfortable.
My dad always told me to meditate a minute for my age, so now I'm meditating for 14 mins. However if you're older and not used to meditating, start off at about 10 mins, then build up, like everyone else has said.
The first time - you're going to fall asleep...it's almost a guarantee.
I recommend you start off in small doses...10 minutes at the most and build up from there.
Meditation requires a lot of discipline.
