Do you think psychiatrists really helpful

Here is an example : my friend lost nearly 30 pounds in less than 6 weeks(her physician couldn’t find diagnose the problem so he referred her to psychiatrist) ,a smart psychiatrist diagnosed her with severe depression and suicidal tendencies (my friend cried she doesn’t have depression and she is not suicidal) But the problem turned out to be parasite which almost killed her

There are thousands of medical malpractices similar to this example Did you know medical malpractice is the third leading cause of death after cancer and heart diseases

According to me psychiatrists are just no more than wallet snatchers

Do you think psychiatrists really helpful

Answer #1

I have been going to one for several weeks because of sleep paralysis and I haven’t noticed any changes in anything but hey it get’s me out of school every so often so I’m fine with it.

Answer #2

Some are helpful and some aren’t you have to shop for one that you feel comfortable with it takes time also you have to be ready 2 see one and willing to open and share your feelings with if you can’t be honest with yourself tnan how can you be honest with a shrink or councellor also keep this in mind they are only human too and make mistakes there is a difference between pshycologist and phychotherapist only one can prescribe drugs if needed or in other words antidepressants…anxiety pills ect…

Answer #3

To some people they can be extremely helpful ! And god only knows how many people they have prevented committing suicide…Not all psychiatrists are the same so that’s a ridiculous statement to make.. you may as well say all doctors are wallet snatchers while your at it nobody’s perfect so yes malpractice does happen but they help an awful lot more people than they harm… Just because your friend had a bad experience with ONE psychiatrist doesn’t mean everyone has the same experience… Xo:)

Answer #4

No offense, but your friend should have gone to their general doctor. Psychiatrists aren’t trained nor meant to diagnose serious physical diagnoses…

Answer #5

So you’re blaming the psychiatrist for not finding what the general physician was supposed to have found? I think you’ve got your own issues that have nothing to do with this case.
