The answers for this question varies. The general consensus seems to be that they grow a few centimetres each year, so probably a few mm each month and about 9 metres or so each century (but sources vary)

Apparently they grow all the time. Since the last 5 or 6 thousand years, the Gobi Desert has gotten more dry because the Himalayas got taller and allow less moisture over the top.
