Help me understand your religion..pt. 1

So, God gave humans free will…this I understand. But what I don’t understand is why? If God says, “I will give you free whether to believe in me and worship me or not but if you choose to believe in me, you will obtain heaven..and if not…well…it’s hell for you” isn’t that bribery or blackmail or something? Why would you want to put all of your faith and trust into something like that?

Just trying to understand…Thanks in advance.

:) Jesus loves you

I come from a religious background and I have to say that I’ve struggled with that question for years. Why would God throw us down on this planet and then tell us to believe in him with no proof and no real way of knowing if it’s real.

This is a pretty heavy question and I think you should get as much advice on it as possible from people who know what they are talking about. Here’s what I know…

God created us. We did what he asked us not to (disobeyed). God wiped out almost the entire population of the world (Noahs Ark). We sinned again. God realized that it’s in our nature to disobey, so he sent his son Jesus Christ to show us how he wants us to live. Jesus said that the wages of sin is death, but God didn’t want us to spend eternity in hell. So he basically gave us a free pass.

Jesus paid the penalty for our sins. He was crucified on a cross along with all of your sins and all of mine. He went to hell for three days and suffered so that we don’t have to.

I’m pretty sure that’s why he wants us to have faith in him. He died so that we don’t have to go to hell and he doesn’t want his sacrifice to be wasted.

Besides, If there was no God, then we all just turn into dust eventually anyway. But with God we have hope for something after this life. So what have you got to lose?

To me, that doesn’t make any sense. Why would I care to lead a good life if Jesus was sent here to live a good life for me and take my punishment if I don’t? Whether I lead a good or bad life, there doesn’t seem to be any repercussions, besides what man has claimed as law on earth…So then what’s the point of freewill?

Answer #4

When God created man, he only had one requirement… man refused to obey that one thing that God asked him to do.

God is righteous and holy, we humans can’t understand that, as we are sinful in nature, and sin is all around us,

God could have created robots, but, that was not what he wanted. It is his desire that we choose righteousness over evil. He made the rules, we broke them, he purchased us back, by paying his own price.

Now, it is up to us, what we do with his offer. If we refuse to accept his pardon, there is nothing else he can do for us.

This is his world, whether we want to admit it or not, he is king, even though we think not. He makes the rules, and leaves the rest up to us. We can live any way we choose, but, we will pay the price for doing so.

If we are smart, we will accept Gods free offer of salvation, and learn to follow his ways, to do otherwise is to rebel against our maker.

Answer #5

that is where the bible contradicts itself because it also sas hes a jealouse god so why would he give us free will and why woulde a perfect being have a so humanly emotion as jealousy

Answer #6

Everyone has there own beliefs. I dont believe in god but other people do. Only they know why they would put all their faith into god. Just like you wouldnt want someone to push there beliefs onto you dont force your beliefs onto someone.

Answer #7

God didn’t give me free will…in my mind, he doesn’t exist.

I create my own path…I don’t follow a religion because some ‘god’ said so.

My actions are what determine my karma for my next lives - that is my belief. There is no god in my mind, and there is no ‘heaven’ and ‘hell’, in the traditional sense.

Answer #8

I read nothing about this person pressing their views onto others. I see someone who has asked for an understanding of other people’s religious beliefs. Or perhaps clarification on a subject they feel they’ve somehow misunderstood.

Either way, I am not religious myself. I can’t answer this..

Answer #9

im baptist and we got freewill nor so that we could deny the existance of god but so that we could live our lives as good as possible. without free will there is no known good or evil to us we act more like robots. the heaven vs hell thing is not blackmail or anything.. its a guide helping us understand the differences between good and evil and he hopes we will all choose the path that leads to heaven.

Answer #10

‘God realized that it’s in our nature to disobey’

Hmm, this is an omnipotent God? I.e. a God who already knows the future? Which means God knew before creation that well humans were going to disobey… there was no ‘realization’…

and using Pascal’s wager is ridiculous… you cannot believe something you dont believe in… simply saying you do would defeat the purpose because after all God is all knowing right?

Answer #11

If we didn’t have free will that would be gay…we’d all be robots!
